Hello all,

I'm having trouble finding the answer to a specific question regarding the manual listed in the subject line.

For those familiar with this system of naming convention, it was established in the 30's, it was used by the USAAC, USAAF, USAF and by the US Navy well into the 70's. the first 01 indicates this is an aircraft manual, the next two or three numbers identify the manufacturer, 75 (Lockheed, 85 Grumman, 15 Northrop) the alphabetic characters identify the model and the last number identify the type manual. -1 Flight Manual/ POH, -2 maintenance, -3 structural repair and -4 IPB/IPC/IPD.

AN 01-75FJA-1 is for a Lockheed P-80 series aircraft, however, the Northrop XB-49 flight manual has the exact same designation and I cannot understand why. I do know, occasionally, other manufacturers were responsible for manufacturing an aircraft under license but this was not the case for the XB-49 as it was solely manufactured by Northrop. Given then, it has occurred to me that this was possible done because of the high security of the project but again, I cannot, and probably will not be able to find anything to confirm that.

I was hoping someone else may have heard something, or knows something that might help in my search.

V/R
