I beleive that the -26 engine was made by Chevrolet in Tonawanda N.Y. Would anyone know who made the R-3350-85 turbo compound engine which powered the C-119F? Were the rest of the TC18s made in Wood-Ridge NJ by Wright? Thanks Carl

I am now able to answer my own question. On a recent trip to the Air Force museum I was able to view the engine data plate on a C-119 powered by a Turbocompound r-3350. Visable on this data plate was the Chevrolet bow tie emblem.

They sure have built many engines there. I wonder what happened to all the aircraft engine manufacturing equipment?

Thanks to the AEHS reference section more information can be added on this subject. 1696 R-3350-26WA's were made between 1952 and 1954 by Chevrolet. This engine was used in the Douglas Skyraider. Between 1953 and 1954 895 R-3350-85 engines were manfactured at the Tonawanda , N.Y. Chevrolet plant. Fairchild C-119's received these engines. Here is an example of a Chevrolet R-3350 data plate. http://enginehistory.org/Dataplates/WrightR-3350.JPG This plate has been restamped to a -89B which is a -85 modified with drilled turbine wheels
