Thanks for the update on running the Gipsy - well done.
Re the Feb 12 discussion; the rocker cover acts as the oil sump for the lube of the rockers. Before installing the cover, clean engine oil is added to the mark. The standpipe allows excess oil to drain overboard - hence the dirty belly of the aircraft after flying. The main oil system is scavenged back to the external oil tank on the left side of the fuselage (Tiger Moth).

If you were going flying with those mags, there is a shop in Kimberley, BC that has exchange certified BTH mags.
Re the Mar 12 discussion on how much to prime: The procedure we use is to pull on a cable that depresses the button on the top of the carb until fuel starts dripping out of the intake manifold drain hole.

Then turn the prop for 4 blades with the ignition off. Then turn the impulse mag switch on and start swinging the blade. As soon as the engine starts the other mag is turned on.
What spark plugs are you using? Motorcycle ones will work fine (I think 14mm Kawasaki).

Once we got the priming figured out the engine started and ran well, the spark plugs were a set of NGKs the owner had on hand, probably a set he was planning to try in the engine.
The Gipsy is now on a trip, by boat, half way around the globe. Going to New Zealand to eventually be installed in a Tiger Moth project. The crate is an actual one from an engine bought from the UK in the late 60s. Every bit of hardware was still there to make an easy job of shipping. Been a great project.
