Has anyone been able to observe e.g. the Sea Fury (with the Centaurus) with e.g. the Corsair simultaneously so to be able to compare how do these engine sounds compare?

I always thought the Centaurus, as installed in the Sea Fury, had a deeper ("bassier", for the lack of the proper term) tone than other 18-cylinder radials with a comparable open-stack exhaust system. Prop noise doesn't contribute a lot of sound from the 5-bladed Rotol, at least compared to a 4-bladed prop.

Youtube video of a Sea Fury; not the best sound quality:

And an engine start:

Here's a video, roughly comparable, of a Corsair:

Hopefully you'll find the differences detectable in these.
