Folks, answer this question without digging into references as this info should be in one´s brains: how many engine controls does to pilot have to manipulate in:
a) F6F-5
b) Bf 109G-6

I´ll explain the reasons for my question after a decent number of replies!

Dunno all of them, but some things the 109 wouldn't have would be:-
-mixture control
-cowl flaps (Jukka's pet hate)

ps do you mean just engine controls for level flight ?
ie are you excluding fuel controls ? MW50/w.i. controls?

This may be incorrect, but I believe the Me-109 did not have a separate propellor pitch control.

Well, I exclude fuel controls as it is more an airframe related question. Anyway, the F6F-5 pilot has to manipulate the following engine controls if he is to have good control of his engine from take-off to landing:
-throttle
-prop control
-mixture control
-blower control
-carb air intake
-cowl flaps
-intercooler flaps
-oil cooler flaps

A Bf 109G-6 pilot needs to manipulate:
-thottle lever

Nothing else. Sometimes before landing he might open rad flaps to kill speed, but that isn´t required. The fact is that no R-2800 powered aircraft ever achieved such degree of automated engine controls that was piece of cake with all major German engines or what was possible with RR engines (RR never managed to achieve fully automatic pitch control).
