Zanzottera (Italy)

Zanzottera Technologies S.r.l. of Como, Italy (near Lugano, Switzerland) was formed in 1982 by Guido Zanzottera to build two-stroke cycle engines for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) and ultralight aircraft. Their initial products were the MZ series of single-cylinder, two-cylinder, and three-cylinder inline liquid-cooled engines. The firm took over the manufacture of the small two-stroke cycle radial engines developed by the König firm in Germany in 1998. In about 2000, assembly of these two lines of engines was transferred to Canada. At the present time, Compact Radial Engines of Surrey, B.C., Canada manufactures and markets them for ultralight aircraft. Zanzottera reorganized his business in Italy and began the design and manufacture of two-stroke air-cooled horizontally-opposed engines specifically for UAV's. Specifications for the present HOAE products of the firm described below are on the Zanzottera Website along with the warning that these engines are designed solely for UAV use and are not to be used in aircraft.
