Subie-Lyc (US)

Subie-Lyc engines are converted from Subaru automobile engines and were built and marketed by Subie-Lyc Engine Systems Inc. of New Berlin, Wisconsin. Subie-Lyc sold their conversions to builders of homebuilt, experimental aircraft. The firm was also known as Aircraft Systems, Inc. and Formula Power at various times. Subie-Lyc Propeller Speed Reduction Units (PSRU's) incorporate belt drives and were manufactured with several different horsepower capabilities (KP4/00, 4/01). The "NBSOEC" in the PSRU designation refers to "No Bending Stresses on Engine Crankshaft". Subie-Lyc marketed these PSRU's as stand-alone products, as well as for use on their own engines. Most of the information here has been compiled from "Kitplanes" (KP) and "Sport Aviation" (SA) magazines. Subie-Lyc had a Website, but it is no longer active. All of these Subie-Lyc engines are non-certificated engines for use in experimental, homebuilt aircraft.
