Aeropower engines are Volkswagen auto engines converted to aircraft engines by Aeropower Engines Pty. Ltd. of Kelmscott, Western Australia. Details of the firm and their engines can be found on their Aeropower Website. Their sister company is Hi-Speed Conversions, which was founded in 1973 to modify VW engines for high-performance auto racing and dunebuggy use. Aeropower began aircraft engine conversions in the early 1980's. All of the conversions weigh between 152-174# depending upon their detailed configuration and accessories. All of the applications are listed for the O-122 (LO-122/1) because Aeropower does not identify the engine model used in their applications, but reports that the O-122 is the preferred version for Australian homebuilt aircraft.
