Rollout and First Flight
During the first engine run, flames from the stacks were perfect, even with ADI on and off, throttle ups
and downs and rapid throttle bursts.
Test flying revealed a problem with stability. The tail area was increased.
Years later test pilot Darryl Greenamyer identified an aft CG condition
that was corrected by moving the battery
forward about six feet.
While the contra-rotating propeller produces less torque reaction, it also
chops up the air more, requiring larger vertical surfaces to compensate.

1975 Camapign
In an attempt to improve stability the crew hastily added a ventral fin. The
ventral fin was eventually removed once the tail was enlarged and CG problems
solved.
